I have lived in Las Vegas for almost 4 years now and there is so much to explore and there is a place I have passed by many times with interest of visiting but never stopping by to check it out. Why? The main reason was procrastination and falling into routine. This is an issue I am getting allot better with. Exploration outside of my comfort zone. Life can be mind numbing, you get up, take a shower, go to work, work, come home, spend time, sleep and repeat.
Why do we fall into the routine, probably familiarity and comfort. Because it is life as we know it, which safely serves us the predictable. We enjoy repetition because it forces our minds not to focus too much on other things that we may need to address.
If your life gets quite routine, shake it up a bit, start off small like these examples that I have tried myself:
- Pick one day out of the week to try a new food. (Taco shop girl to Thai food girl)
- Go a completely different route to work or going home, playing your favorite music. (I also take the long way home so I can listen to my favorite podcasts)
- After work stop by that boutique or shop you’ve been really wanting to check out. (My next mission is to check out this celebrity fashion resale shop)
- Look for art communities in your town, you’ll find allot of inspiration. (Las Vegas has the Arts District, a great spot where local artist work and share their galleries)
For my small exploration experience was a chocolate factory right down the street from my job. You can learn more about the chocolate factory at: Ethel M. Chocolates. The delightful chocolates were created in honor of Forrest Mars Sr’s mother Ethel.
Taking the time to stop and explore this place, gave me that good feeling you get by experiencing real live things. Exploring is a great gift for yourself. The little things you do for yourself count and they mean more in the long run.
So you better believe I got out of my routine and comfort zone to stopped in to check it out. The old version of me would have passed by this place and many others on the fact that I took the safe route in life.
